I know what you are thinking. Smudge sticks are WOO WOO stuff and only witches use them. Firstly, we are all witches. You’ve been saying spells since you were a little kid. Remember this one? “I’m rubber, you’re glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you”. Or, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, when I’m dead and in my grave You’ll be sorry for what you called me!” Well those are basically spells. So enough about THAT.
Smudge sticks are used to cleanse and purify the air. Energy is all around us and energy takes on different consistencies. Yes you read that correctly. Think about it. Ever walked into a room and thought the air was heavy or thick? That’s because it was full of negative energy. This happens after someone fights or someone is sad. By smudging a room like that it can lift the thickness and make it feel so much better for everyone. Certain herbs are used for smudge sticks and perform different duties. Some herbs are for protection, some are for cleansing the air, and some will help promote rest. Smudge sticks are an awesome addition to your herbal home apothecary. Do some investigating of your own. Teach your kids how to make their own smudge sticks. I love to go foraging in the spring to gather all the goodness so that my spring and summer smudge sticks will be dry and ready to use through the winter months when we are stuck inside.
